Extension Punto DF
Financed by hosting travelers, Punto DF is a cultural center and artistic residency that builds bridges and bounds the local socio-structure by offering a space for the exchange of knowledge by means of art. The Project of the Extension was based on the idea of a collaboration between all involved Individuals, to gain an exchange of ideas, knowledge, and practical experience.
The Project concerns the addition of a workshop, 3 habitational capsules for temporarily residing artists, a further 6-bed dormitory and the necessary sanitary facilities. Due to its position in a earthquake-area, a reinforced concrete structure is introduced on top of the existing building, embracing and superpositioning the existing volume. The L-shaped annex is extruded vertically in order to optimize the spatial utilization in both areas while creating a specific light situation on the inside. The frieze derives from a regional building-tradition and is translated in two similar patterns that vary depending on its position and use. Each spatial unit is defined by its height, creating a topography. As a vertical connection, a wooden staircase is inserted. — Additionally, a gentle roof over the entrance patio allows the branches of the trees on the street to enter and extend the greenery inside. Covering a cultural center, the roof aims to amplify the ongoing activities into the neighborhood and vice versa.
