Our competition entry for the Documenta Forum deals with the post-war city fabric of Kassel, proposing a specific volume that redefines its diffuse environment. Deriving from the spatial configuration of the archive, with a grid as an isotropic gesture of its content that grows infinitely below the cities surface, the whole building evolves from its logic. The exhibitional part, translated into an anisotropic sequence of white-cubes, is lifted above ground-level in order to keep the common space free of interventions while producing a defined public courtyard with a pergola. On the common ground the only connection points between the two entities are creating the access while containing the additional public program.
